THE great fall detox series: 10 signs you may need to detox, part 2

Continuing from last week, here are a few more important signs that you need to look out for as you decide if you’re in need of a detox program.

Your body will tell you, you just have to know what to look for when it’s trying to communicate. Below are more tell-tale signs that you are in need of a change.

Dry and Brittle Nails or Hair Weak Nails Thinning Hair Dullness

While eyes may be the window to the soul…nails are the window to the human body. They are a guide to what’s physically going on inside.

Brittle nails can be frustrating too. No matter how much you polish, buff, and moisturize, you still don’t have beautiful nails. Why are perfect nails so hard for some woman (and men) to have? Weakened, ridges, discolored and breaking nails are often a sign of underlying issues within.

Frequent Colds Prone to Illness and Infections

I think this sign really speaks for itself. If you are continually getting sick or always seem to be fighting of a cold or the flu, then it's possible that your immune system is compromised; your defenses are weakened. This is a very scary occurrence. You are possibly leaving yourself open for a more serious infection. It’s truly time to make a change before this escalates.

Congestion Coughing Bronchitis Asthma Sinus Conditions

Sinus congestion, puffy eyes or dark under eye circles are all signs of a deeper issue. There’s a reason for the buildup of mucus, water retention and lack of oxygen flowing through the body. Usually if these issues are recurring, they are produced from an overall stressful or unhealthy lifestyle, full of bad habits.

Cravings Insatiable Hunger Binge Eating

There are emotional triggers to this, but physical cravings can come from an abundance of highly processed and concentrated foods that artificially stimulate dopamine (the pleasure neurotransmitter), which plays a role in addiction. So, you will “feel good” and naturally want more of the food that is making you feel good. In addition, gut health plays a role in cravings as well. Eating a lot of sugars can cause an overabundance of yeast in your gut, which can lead to leaky gut and other digestive symptoms. Adding in fermented foods and pre and probiotics can help teach your body to crave what makes you feel well. Cravings really do dissipate once you detoxify.

Body Odor Bad Breath

Another obvious sign that you need to detoxify your body is bad breath. If you have bad breath and no amount of brushing or strong mints seem to make it go away, then this could be a sign that your liver is having trouble getting rid of all the toxins in your body.

In addition, for the body to function at its best, your pH needs to stay in the alkaline range. A diet filled with processed carbohydrates, sugars, and grains as well as a high alcohol and soda intake can all contribute to a high acid pH. When your body pH is highly acidic, it can lead to serious health problems ranging from gastritis to brittle nails BUT also very bad body odor!
