Wellness Month at THE pearl

📷📷

Every August, Wellness Month at THE pearl empowers you to fall in love with self-care through our month-long celebration of YOU!

At THE pearl, we believe that true beauty and wellness come from within. We aspire to cultivate a centered mind and a healthy body, and to assist you in navigating that which challenges your mental and physical state. We faciliate healing. Wellness is a highly personal practice that leads us to the best version of ourselves and in turn gives us confidence, courage, and more love to give others – ultimately impacting our community for the better.

Below are a few simple ways that you can participate in Wellness Month.

Start a chain of gratitude

Mental health is an important part of wellness, and sometimes it’s the smallest moments of gratitude and acknowledgment that make the most difference for your you and others around you. Encourage acknowledgment among your friends, family or co-workers this month by starting a game of gratitude tag. For example - recognize a coworker for a recent achievement, only requirement: they must pay it forward to the next person.

Practice deep breathing

Stress has a sneaky way of hurting your health - and interfering with your breathing. You may not mean to do it, but when you're stressed you hold your breath or take much shallower breaths. And then? Your whole body tenses, creating muscle tension and maybe even pain.

There are so many ways to breathe, and the 4-4-8 technique is just one of the many: 1. Breathe in through your nose for a count of four, bringing the breath into your abdomen. 2. Hold your breath for a count of four. 3. Breathe out through your mouth with a whooshing sound for a count of eight. Ahhhhh...

Give yourself the gift of quiet and relaxation

Allow yourself the luxury of doing the things you love, that inspire you and feed your soul. Whether it’s reading the Sunday paper, enjoying a hot bath or taking a morning walk, decide to give yourself permission for this without feeling guilty. And if you absolutely must, write it in your planner - literally make an appointment with yourself. The co-pay for missing that appointment is going to be costly!

And the one I'm currently working on...

Challenge yourself

A little bit of a challenge is required for wisdom to arise, right?! If we’re not learning and evolving every day, what’s the point of life? I encourage you to embrace challenge - embrace the hardships, the not-so easy shit, the heartaches, the grittiness, and any kind of discomfort that life presents us with. That’s where all the good stuff is nestled, in our ability to hold the discomfort with the beauty. To let it transform us and tap into this unexpected capacity, to surprise ourselves!

Your version of self-care may be a relaxing massage, an at-home mask, a fast-paced fitness class, a walk on the beach or hiking the Appalachian Trail or maybe even one of the suggestions above. No matter how incremental or monumental your efforts are, they start with a pledge to make yourself a priority. Sometimes the smallest step in the right direction ends up being the biggest step of your life.
